讲座提要:
Charles Peirce Snow in The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution (
Cambridge : CUP, 1959), observes that the intellectual life, some time in the
XXth century, has been split in two poles that do not share anything anymore.
On one hand, literary intellectuals who do not seem to follow the pace of the
world and have become politically and socially irrelevant most of the time. On
the other hand, scientists and their fundamental optimism that is, according
to the literary part, completely unconcerned by the human condition. Beyond
the point made for the first time by Snow, we will seize an opportunity to
discuss the growing gap between intellectual communities that used to be only
one in a past that is not quite remote.
