文摘：“当下主义”为进入21世纪以来莎学领域新兴的研究理论。它反对传统的“历史主义”研究将“过去”作为完全陌生的时空领域与现当代割裂开来的做法，主张以当代视角解读莎剧。其批评者认为，当下主义错误地将当代特征加诸过去，导致罔顾史实的解读，并在文本选择上存在局限性，易造成文学研究的后退。此次讲座将针对这些批评，结合莎士比亚在其戏剧中的历史本质讨论，分析当下主义的理论基础，并细审其莎学研究实践。

Presentism, “the new kid on the block” in 21^st-century Shakespeare Studies, is a theory that proposes bringing a contemporary perspective on the playwright and his works. As a challenge to the dominant practice of reading Shakespeare historically, presentism has often been accused by the literary establishment of anachronism and conservatism. The lecture shall endeavor to offer a more balanced analysis of presentism by pointing out the soundness of its principle (and thus refuting the Establishment’s first criticism) and inadequacies of its practice (thereby endorsing the second).

主讲人简介：陈星，南京大学外国语学院助理研究员，英国爱丁堡大学英语文学博士。主要研究方向为英国文艺复兴文学和莎士比亚研究，出版专著Reconsidering Shakespeare’s “Lateness”: Studies in the Last Plays (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015) ，发表多篇期刊论文，主持江苏省社科基金青年项目“莎士比亚末期戏剧中的历史书写研究”。
