1.Purposes: 目的
This seminar is proposed as a research activity of the ‘Space Research Group’.It intends to establish a
platform/framework for both internal and external scholars to discuss the emerging issues of ‘urban space’ in China. This seminar will lay the foundation for further systematic researches.
这次研讨会是“空间研究小组”的一次学术活动。它试图为校内和校外的相关研究学者讨论中国城市空间出现的新问题建
立一个平台或者框架。它将为进一步的系统研究打下基础。
2.Questions for Discussion:问题
How do we understand and evaluate the vitality of architectural and urban space? How do we define and analyze the complicated urban conditions that validate architectural and urban design? What are the major factors that influence the validity and vitality of space in contemporary Chinese cities? This seminar will explore the theme of space in urbanism by discussing the explicit and implicit processes of validation versus invalidation, and vitalization versus devitalization. The seminar will combine presentations of design/research projects, case studies, urban observation, and film screening. It intends to provide an interdisciplinary frame for contemporary architecture.

城市中，哪些主要因素影响着空间的有效与活性？这次讨论会将通过讨论“合法化”与“非法化”、“激活”与“衰竭”等显
性与隐性的诸多过程来探讨城市建筑学中的空间主题。这次讨论会将综合多种形式的报告：设计或研究项目、案例研究、城市
观察、以及影像放映。它试图为当代建筑提供一个跨学科的框架。
3.Outcomes:成果
This seminar will include a series of presentations and discussions, which will lead to the publication of a specially-dedicated book (200-300 pages) and 1-2 journal papers. It will also function as an initiating event to a comprehensive survey project on the city.
